Small Steps Team

Small Steps is run by Hobart City Mission and is a live-in parenting and life skills program for young mothers at risk of homelessness or having their infants removed into State care due to a lack of appropriate accommodation and support. This holistic program addresses this gap in services by providing accommodation, support, education and hope for young mums and their babies.

Small Steps provides self-contained accommodation for 12 young mums under 25 years old and their babies. The mums are taught skills that can assist them in living independently in the community, such as budgeting, maintaining a stable tenancy, and providing a safe and healthy environment for their child.

OUR TEAM: We have a team of females visiting these mums once a month to sit a chat, make a meal, play with babies while providing a listening ear and develop positive relationships.

WHO: Need to be female and over the age of 18, also need to have a police check and undergo a small amount of training. (Volunteers cannot bring their own children with them due to HCM policy). You also need to have been attending our church regularly for about a year.

WHEN & WHERE: Once a month, Friday lunchtime in the Newtown area.
