Community Refugee Integration Settlement Pilot (CRISP) is an Australian wide program that invites the local community to bond together in welcoming refugee households into their new community, supporting them on their settlement journey from the day they arrive.
CRISP is an opportunity for us as a church to walk the journey with others from a diverse background and play a role in helping them find their feet within Hobart. In a nutshell, connecting, serving others, and loving Gods people!
The C3 CRISP team will support a refugee household for 12 months, supporting them from the moment they touch down in Hobart. This could look like setting up housing, linking the household with govt. services, orientating to Hobart, health appointments, English language lessons, driving lessons, linking to sports clubs and so on.
The CRISP team is a small group of committed people with a bunch of different gifts and skills to offer. Each person’s unique involvement will look slightly different depending on time availability and skills, but a rough guide is: plan to spend about 2-3hrs a week with the household over a 12 month period. This time may be spent supporting with practical help such as accompanying to health appointments or social support such as taking the family for quality time at the botanical gardens after church on Sunday.
Everything we do as part of the CRISP team is with a heart to set the refugee household up for success in our community, teaching sustainable skills and customs, and loving them!
Details you ought to know:
- This team is a 12 month commitment.
- This team will be a great opportunity to connect and build friendships with others in our church who you may not have met yet.
- Team members must be Australian citizens or hold PR visas and be able to provide current WWVP cards and police checks.
- Training is involved to help us as a team navigate culture shock, settlement, language barriers etc. this training is about 8 hours worth and will be done as a team over a couple of sessions (with FOOD!).
- The average time investment you can anticipate is about 2-3hrs per week. This may become less so after the first three months, once the household is feeling more settled. The way your time is spent can be pretty flexible, helping to fit in with your work, family, study commitments.
